Safety Bollards
A bollard protects one point rather than a run: a dock door frame, a rack end, an electrical panel, an office corner or a pedestrian doorway. The steel bollards here come as round pipe and square tube posts that bolt to the slab with no concrete work, and as an 84″ post set into the slab itself for yard and dock-approach traffic, where a bolted baseplate would shear off under a hard strike. A polymer bollard flexes and returns to shape instead, putting far less of the impact into the floor and its anchors. If you already have bollards that have lost their colour, HDPE covers slide over them without repainting.
Which bollard do I need?
No impact rating is listed here for the steel bollards. The polymer bollard is rated to PAS 13 by energy absorbed (5,800 J), which does not convert to the lb-at-mph figures quoted for guard rail.
| Bollard | Body | Mounting | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bollards → | Round steel pipe, 4.5″ dia., 0.125″ wall | Bolted through a 10″ × 10″ × 1/2″ footplate, no concrete work | 42″ tall |

| Direct Bury Bollards → | 5.5″ · 6.5″ · 8.5″ OD | Set into the slab, no baseplate or anchors | 84″ overall |
| Polymer Safety Bollards → | Impact-absorbing polymer that flexes and rebounds | Coated base; other base options available | 32-7/8″ · 47-1/4″ · 78-3/4″ |
| Bollard Covers → | HDPE sleeve | Slides over an existing bollard, no tools | 4.5″–10-7/8″ ID · 52″–72″ tall |
Sturdy, safety-yellow steel posts that absorb and deflect impacts from forklifts and other machinery to protect dock doors, rack ends, electrical panels and pedestrian areas. Designed for easy floor anchoring without concrete work and suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
- Size: 42″ tall, 4.5″-dia. pipe, 0.125″ wall
- Footplate: 10″ × 10″ × 1/2″-thick with four anchor holes (3/4″ or 1/2″ anchors)
- Finish: Powder-coated safety yellow
- Top cap: Black plastic cap included
A polymer bollard that flexes on impact and returns to shape, rather than resisting rigidly like a steel pipe. Because the material absorbs and dissipates the energy, far less of it is transferred into the slab and the anchors, which is what usually turns a hard strike on a steel bollard into concrete repair as well as bollard replacement. Rated to PAS 13, the traffic-management barrier standard, by impact energy rather than a lb-at-mph figure. Yellow and grey as standard, on an electrophoretic-coated base.
- Heights: 32-7/8″ · 47-1/4″ · 78-3/4″
- Material: Impact-absorbing polymer, flexes and rebounds
- Rated to: PAS 13 — 5,800 J, equivalent to 4.7 US ton at 4 mph
- Impact zone: 0–47-1/4″ (90° approach)
An 84″ bollard set into the slab rather than bolted to it, so the concrete itself resists the impact instead of four anchors in shear. That makes it the choice for exterior dock approaches, gate posts and yard traffic where a surface-mounted baseplate would shear off under a hard strike. Available in 5.5″, 6.5″ and 8.5″ outside diameters, in safety yellow or red, with a plastic cap and striped decal.
- Length: 84″ overall (buried depth per site conditions)
- Diameters: 5.5″ · 6.5″ · 8.5″ OD
- Install: Direct bury into slab — no baseplate or anchors
- Colours: Safety yellow or red
High-density polyethylene sleeves that drop over an existing bollard to restore high-visibility colour without repainting, and to stop rust bleeding onto the slab. Because they are plastic they do not chip or need masking off, which is why they are common in food and retail-facing areas where a repaint means downtime. Internal diameters of 4.5″, 7″, 8-7/8″ and 10-7/8″ cover the usual bollard sizes, in heights from 52″ to 72″.
- Material: Heavy-duty high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
- Internal diameters: 4.5″ · 7″ · 8-7/8″ · 10-7/8″
- Heights: 52″ · 60″ · 64″ · 72″
- Install: Slides over existing bollard, no tools
A square steel bollard for dock doors, office corners and equipment: 5″ × 5″ × 3/16″ tube welded to a 10″ × 10″ × 3/8″ base plate and painted safety yellow. Stock heights are 24″, 36″ and 42″, with 60″ made to order. It bolts down to the slab, and the anchors are bought separately.
- Post: 5″ × 5″ × 3/16″ square structural tube
- Base plate: 10″ × 10″ × 3/8″, drilled for 5/8″ holes
- Heights: 24″ · 36″ · 42″ (60″ custom)
- Anchors: 1/2″, 4 recommended, not included
Which one do I need?
Where it stands and what can hit it decide most of this.
Bolt it down, or bury it?
Surface-mounted bollards bolt to the slab through a baseplate with no concrete work, for dock doors, rack ends, electrical panels and office corners. Where trucks hit hard, on exterior dock approaches, gate posts and yard traffic, a direct-bury bollard is set into the slab so the concrete resists the impact instead of four anchors in shear.
Steel, or polymer?
A steel bollard resists rigidly, so a hard strike can mean concrete repair as well as a new bollard. A polymer bollard flexes on impact and returns to shape, transferring far less energy into the slab and anchors. Its rating is PAS 13 impact energy rather than a lb-at-mph figure.
Bollards already in, but faded or rusting?
Bollard covers are HDPE sleeves that slide over an existing bollard to restore high-visibility colour, with no repainting and no rust bleeding onto the slab. Four internal diameters, from 4.5″ to 10-7/8″, fit the usual bollard sizes.
