Pallet Rack Post & Column Protectors
The bottom two feet of a rack upright absorbs nearly every forklift and outrigger strike in the building, and a bent leg is what turns a loaded bay into a collapse risk. These post protectors guard the column itself, in floor-anchored, bolt-on, side-mount and hidden-anchor styles. Which one fits is usually decided by the rack, not by preference: an oversized seismic baseplate, a first beam level set high off the floor, a narrow aisle with no room for a footplate, or a wash-down area that cannot have an open section collecting debris each rule out most of the range. Sizes cover 3″ roll-formed columns through 8″ structural uprights.
The manufacturer's most popular post protector for reach-truck applications, shielding rack uprights from forklift impacts. The 4″-high V-nose is built from 5/16″-thick steel to absorb outrigger impact and mounts above the footplate with a 3/4″-diameter floor anchor.
- Height: 4″ high (fits under low beam levels)
- Construction: 5/16″-thick steel
- Fits: 3″-wide rack columns (others available)
- Mounting: 3/4″-dia. floor anchor (sold separately)
A floor-mounted pallet rack column guard that protects the bottom portion of the frame where most outrigger and forklift damage occurs. Built from 3/16″-thick steel and available in 12″, 18″ or 24″ heights to suit different exposure levels.
- Mount: Floor-mounted
- Construction: 3/16″-thick steel
- Footplate: 6″ × 7-3/4″ with (4) 5/8″-dia. anchor holes
- Heights: 12″ · 18″ · 24″
A floor-mounted steel upright protector that shields the base of the rack frame where forklift and pallet-jack strikes concentrate. Built from heavy 5-gauge steel with a V-face and anchored to the slab on a four-hole plate. Available in 12″, 18″ and 24″ heights across a range of column widths, powder-coated safety yellow.
- Mount: Floor-mounted · (4) 1/2″-dia. wedge anchors
- Construction: 5-gauge steel, V-face
- Heights: 12″ · 18″ · 24″
- Fits: 4.5″–8.5″ inside width (all uprights & baseplates)
A low-profile upright protector engineered to fit over oversized seismic baseplates, installing over the top of the baseplate rather than surrounding it — which keeps it from eating aisle floor space. Steel V-face on a heavy two-anchor mounting plate, powder-coated safety yellow.
- Mount: Floor-mounted · 2-anchor mounting plate
- Construction: Steel, V-face
- Height: 12″
- Inside width: 3-1/4″ or 4-1/4″
A slim steel deflector that bolts directly into the accessory holes on the rack upright, so no floor anchoring or drilling is required. It adds steel exactly where impacts land, and comes off again without leaving anchor holes in your slab. Powder-coated safety yellow.
- Mount: Bolt-on to upright accessory holes (no floor anchors)
- Construction: Slim-profile steel
- Heights: 12″ · 24″
- Models: BP-12 (8 lb) · BP-24 (16 lb)
A post protector that bolts to the sides of the upright rather than the floor, so it can be fitted at any beam level instead of only at the base. Formed from 3/16″ steel in 12″ and 24″ heights, it suits bays where a floor-anchored guard would foul pallet placement or where damage is occurring above the first beam. Clearances cover standard 3-1/8″ and 4.1″ columns plus a Mecalux-specific 3.25″ option.
- Height: 12″ or 24″
- Construction: 3/16″-thick steel
- Clearances: 3-1/8″ · 3.25″ (Mecalux) · 4.1″
- Mounting: Bolts to upright sides, no floor anchor
A low 4″-high guard sized for the outrigger legs of a reach truck, which strike the column far below the first beam. Available in 1/4″ or 3/8″ steel and fixed with a single floor anchor, it stays under low beam levels where a taller protector will not fit. An optional plastic cap closes the top for food-grade and sanitary environments where an open section would trap debris.
- Height: 4″ (fits under low beam levels)
- Construction: 1/4″ or 3/8″ steel
- Clearances: 3.25″ or 5.5″
- Mounting: Single floor anchor (sold separately)
A 5″-high outrigger guard in heavy 3/8″ steel that bolts straight to the rack face and needs no floor anchoring at all. Skipping the concrete work makes it the fastest option to retrofit across a large number of bays, and the only one that can be moved later without leaving anchor holes in the slab. The trade-off is that impact loads transfer into the upright rather than the floor.
- Height: 5″
- Construction: 3/8″-thick steel
- Clearance: 3″
- Mounting: Bolts to rack face, no floor anchoring
A 12″-high, 9″-deep guard that anchors both in front of and behind the upright, leaving no baseplate projecting into the aisle. Because nothing protrudes past the frame line, it avoids the trip hazard and pallet-jack snag that a conventional footplate creates in a busy pick aisle. Built from 3/16″ steel with a 5″ clear opening.
- Height: 12″
- Depth: 9″
- Clear opening: 5″
- Construction: 3/16″-thick steel
A side-bolting protector slotted to clear rack hardware where the first beam level is set high off the floor. In that configuration the exposed run of column is longer than a standard base guard covers, so the protector mounts higher up the upright instead. Formed from 3/16″ steel with a 4.25″ clear opening; an optional plastic cap suits food-grade areas.
- Height: 12″
- Clear opening: 4.25″
- Clearance: 3″
- Construction: 3/16″-thick steel
A 16″-high guard in 1/4″ steel with a closed top, sized for narrow-aisle bays where a wide footplate would eat into the working aisle. The closed top is the reason it is specified in food and pharmaceutical facilities: there is no open section for dust, water or product debris to collect in, so it washes down cleanly. Fits structural and open-back frames, and mounts to the rack face or the floor.
- Height: 16″
- Construction: 1/4″-thick steel, closed top
- Clearance: 3″
- Frame fit: Structural · Open Back
A curved 3/16″ steel plate welded to a heavy base, shaped so a glancing forklift hit is deflected around the column instead of stopping against it. The 8-1/4″ × 6″ × 1/4″ baseplate is punched at all four corners for 1/2″ anchors, and the 5-1/4″ × 4″ inset clears rack posts up to 5″ wide. Supplied in 12″, 18″ and 24″ heights, powder-coated safety yellow.
- Heights: 12″ · 18″ · 24″ (custom on request)
- Construction: 3/16″ curved steel plate, welded base
- Base plate: 8-1/4″ × 6″ × 1/4″ steel
- Fits: Rack posts up to 5″ wide
The wide-inset version of the crescent protector, built identically in 3/16″ steel on the same 8-1/4″ × 6″ × 1/4″ base but opened out to an 8-1/4″ × 4″ inset. That extra width is what lets it fit heavy structural uprights and deep-column frames up to 8″ wide, which the standard crescent will not clear. Same 12″, 18″ and 24″ heights and the same anchor pattern.
- Heights: 12″ · 18″ · 24″ (custom on request)
- Construction: 3/16″ curved steel plate, welded base
- Base plate: 8-1/4″ × 6″ × 1/4″ steel
- Fits: Rack posts up to 8″ wide
A structural steel channel on a four-hole base plate that sits in front of an in-aisle rack upright and takes the forklift, hand-truck or cart strike instead. Made for 3″ and 4″ uprights in 12″, 18″, 24″ and 36″ heights. The manufacturer recommends its optional flush-head anchors so the bolt heads don't catch truck tires.
- Fits: 3″ or 4″ wide rack uprights
- Heights: 12″ · 18″ · 24″ · 36″
- Base plate: 8″ × 6″ (3″ model) · 9″ × 6″ (4″ model)
- Construction: Structural steel channel
Which one do I need?
In most bays the rack decides this, not preference.
Anchor it to the floor, or bolt it to the rack?
A floor-anchored guard carries the impact into the slab, which is why it protects best — but it needs concrete work and leaves a footplate projecting into the aisle. A rack-mounted guard bolts into the upright’s own accessory holes in minutes, needs no anchors, and can be moved later without leaving holes in the floor; the trade-off is that the impact load transfers into the frame instead of the ground.
Is the damage at the base, or higher up the column?
Reach-truck outrigger legs strike 4–5″ off the floor, below where a 12″ guard does its work, so outrigger protectors are deliberately short enough to sit under a low first beam. Where the first beam level is set high, or the dents are appearing well above the footplate, a side-bolting protector mounts anywhere up the upright instead of only at the base.
Will a conventional footplate even fit?
Two situations rule out most of the range: an oversized seismic baseplate that a standard guard cannot clear, and a narrow aisle where a projecting footplate becomes a trip hazard and a pallet-jack snag. There is a purpose-built answer to each — one wraps the whole baseplate, one anchors in front of and behind the upright so nothing protrudes past the frame line.
Steel, or something that gives?
Steel dents and stays dented — it is the cheapest per bay and the easiest to inspect, since the damage is visible. The alternatives spread the strike instead of transferring it: a hybrid rubber-elastomer and steel guard, which its maker says cuts peak column stress by as much as 72% in a frontal impact, and drops over the footplate with no hardware; or a moulded HDPE guard with no paint to flake off, for bays where a steel guard is more than the traffic warrants.
Food-grade or wash-down area?
An open-section guard collects dust, water and product debris where it cannot be cleaned out. A closed top solves it, either as a fully closed-top protector or as the optional plastic cap offered on the outrigger and slotted styles.
